Climb Mt Kenya

It is an extinct volcano, which formed a couple of million years ago. The mountain is located in the Mount Kenya National Park, which is a designated protected area. It is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second highest in Africa. It is one of the few places near the equator on Africa with permanent glaciers.

Mt Kenya Sirimon Routes



Leave Nairobi in the morning and drive across the central highlands to Naro Moru Youth Hostel, an old English house, with beautiful flower gardens and amazing views of Mt. Kenya. We will stay overnight at the camp at the Youth Hostel

After breakfast we will leave for the park gate with a 4WD vehicle. You will arrive at the park gate in time to check in and get the park entrance permits. Our hike will start at the gate and we will hike through the crest of a broad ridge between the northern and southern Naro Moru valleys. The hike is 9 km to the Met station where we will have dinner and stay overnight. Met Station is located at 3,050 m.

After breakfast you will begin the hike traversing along The Teleki Valley and then finally dropping into The Teleki Valley. The hike is enjoyable with fantastic views of the Mt. Kenya peaks and experiencing the different zones of very unique plants along the way. There are chances of seeing the mountain duikers (Deer) and malachite sunbirds on the lobelia plants as you hike. Today you will hike a distance of about 14 km and the hike takes about 5-6 hours to Mackinders camp which is located at 3,300 m where we will stay overnight.

Today you will begin the hike at 3:00 am from Mackinder’s Camp and climb the peak to point Lenana at 4,985 m. The hike is about 5 km and it takes at least 3 1/2 hours to ascend 785 m. you will get to Pt. Lenana before the sunrise and enjoy the scenery. If the weather permits you can spot Mt Kilimanjaro from here. After summating Pt. Lenana and enjoying the scenery you will descend down to Old Moses Camp at 3,300 m. where you will have dinner and stay overnight.

After breakfast you will take a beautiful hike for 2 hours through the rain forest to Sirimon Gate and then head back to Nairobi.

5 Days: Sirimon – Naro Moru Routes

Mt Kenya Sirimon and Naro Moru Routes


Today you will leave Nairobi and drive to Naro Moru which is the base camp for climbing Mt Kenya. After lunch, the senior guide will help you to check the necessary mountain gear that you will need for the mountain. You will also have time to explore the base camp and enjoy the beautiful gardens as well the many species of birds along the stream or within the area or you can relax and get ready for next few days of adventures. We will camp and stay overnight at the Mt. Kenya Youth Hostel.


After breakfast, you will drive 1 – 2 hours to the gate on the Sirimon route. You will begin your hike and follow the track as it winds uphill through the tropical forest and then finally to the tree line. You will stay overnight at Judmaier Camp at 3,340 m.


This is another good hiking day with some amazing views of Tereri and Sendeyo peaks. The scenery is magnificent as you hike through the lush tropical forest to a higher elevation. You will hike about 6 – 7 hours and ascend 15 km to get to Shipton’s camp at 4,200 m. The camp is situated in an excellent setting with the North face of the two highest Mt. Kenya peaks, Nelian and Batian.


Today you will begin your journey at around 2:30 am. You will have tea/coffee and snacks and then begin ascending 755 m towards a steep ridge of scree passing the Square Tarn until you reach Point Lenana at 4,985 m. You arrive at the peak at around 6:30 am for the sunrise and amazing views down into the gorges valley with lake Michaelson and Vivienne falls visible as well. On the other side of the peak you can see the Ithanguni peak, Rotundu peak and the giant flat top Kilingo hill table. If weather is clear, Mount Kiliminjaro’s Kibo and Mawenzi peaks are visible. After enjoying being on top, you will descend down to Mintos Hut at 4,200 m for a full breakfast and then proceed down to Chogoria camp where we will have dinner and stay an overnight.

After breakfast you will descend for a long walk, 32 km through the bamboo forest to Chogoria town and then drive back to Nairobi.

5 Days: Sirimon Route

Today you will leave Nairobi in the morning and drive through the Central Highlands and arrive in Nanyuki town in time for lunch. After lunch you will proceed by 4WD to Sirimon Gate. Check in and start hiking through the tropical rain forest to Old Moses Camp at 3,300 m where we will have dinner and overnight


After breakfast, start our journey and hike through the Liki Valley via Mackinder’s Valley where we will stop and have a picnic lunch and then proceed to Shipton’s Camp at 4,200 m. We will have dinner and stay overnight at the camp.


After breakfast you can experience an amazing day hiking the peak circuit. You will ascend a steep ridge through Kami Hut, Hausberg Tarn and Two Tarns Lake and then return to Shipton’s camp.


Today you will bgin with tea and coffee at 2:30 am and then begin your journey to peak Point Lenana at 4,985 m. this ascent takes 3 hours, arriving in time for the sunrise. After enjoy the views from Pt Lenana descend to Shipton’s Camp for a full breakfast and then descend down to Old Moses camp for dinner and overnight.


After breakfast hike to the park gate where we will get picked up and drive to Nanyuki town for lunch and then back to Nairobi.

6 Days: Sirimon – Naro Moru

  Mt Kenya Sirimon Route

Day 1: Nairobi to Naro Moru
Leave Nairobi in the morning and head to Naro Moru the base camp at the Mt. Kenya Youth Hostel. After lunch we will debrief and check the mountain gear. Then we will have free time and relax at the Youth Hostel Camp site where we will have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 2: Old Moses
After an early breakfast we will drive for 1 1/2 hours to Sirimon Gate. You will check in here and start walking 3-4 hours for 9 km to Judmaier Camp at 3,350 m. You will have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 3: Judmaier to Shipton’s Camp
After breakfast you will begin your hike and proceed on crossing Ontulilli stream several times. You will continue straight to Liki North stream coming to the top ridge and down to Mackinder’s Valley and then finally to Shipton’s Camp at 4,200 m where we will have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 4: Shipton’s to Austrian Hut
After breakfast start ascending through the Simba Col, a steep ridge that takes about one hour to climb via Simba Tarn. We will have amazing views as we approach Delamere Peaks and hike down to Austrian Hut at 4,790 m where we will have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 5: Point Lenana
Leave at 5:00 am and start ascending across Lewis Glacier to arrive at Point Lenana around 6.30 am for the sunrise. After enjoying the spectacular views proceed down to Mackinders Camp for breakfast and then descend to the Met Station for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Met Station to Nairobi
Depart at 7:30 am and walk for 9 km through the tropical rain forest to Naro Moru gate where will get picked up by a 4 WD and then return back to Nairobi.

6 Days: Chogoria – Naro Moru

Mt Kenya Chogoria - Naro Moru Route


Leave Nairobi in the afternoon and drive to Naro Moru River Lodge for dinner and an overnight.

Day 2: Naro Moru to Chogoria Bandas
After breakfast, leave early in the morning and drive to Chogoria route via Meru town. After lunch we will hike to Chogoria Bandas through the bamboo forest at 2,900 m where we will have dinner and stay overnight.


After breakfast hike towards the rocky moorland. Today we will hike 21 km to Mintos Hut where we will have dinner and stay overnight.


After breakfast leave at 8:00 am for Austrian Hut which is 8 km away and takes about 4 hours to hike. We will have dinner and stay overnight at Austrian Hut located at 4,750 m.


Start at 5 am and have tea/coffee and snacks before hiking to summit Point Lenana, 4,985 m in time for sunrise. After enjoying the scenery on the peak we will descend over a steep ridge with scree and proceed down to Mackinder’s Camp for a full breakfast. We will then hike down to the Met Station at 3,050 m where we will have dinner and stay overnight.


After breakfast descend to Naro Moru Gate which is 2 hours away where we will be picked up by a 4 WD and transferred back to Nairobi.
